As the most ambitious Nintendo Switch port to date, a lot of eyes are on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and its port developer, Saber Interactive. More details regarding the port emerged during a recent interview, which revealed that the upcoming port will be done in close cooperation with CD Projekt RED, the original developer behind The Witcher 3.
Since its announcement during the E3 2019 Nintendo Direct, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's planned release on the handheld console has turned some heads. Most of the attention is due to the fact that a lot of doubts has been voiced as to whether the Nintendo Switch is able to handle the RPG. This is due to the fact that even on more powerful platforms, certain hardware requirements needed to be met to actually appreciate the immersive world CD Projekt RED created.
It should come as a relief for fans of the title that Saber Interactive and CD Projekt RED made the necessary trade-offs and adjustments to make sure that the Nintendo Switch experience runs as smooth as it can despite its limited hardware.
In an interview with VGC, CD Projekt RED UI Coordinator Alvin Liu revealed these trade-offs will be focused mostly on draw distance and less foliage. “Right now there’s a bit less foliage and some of draw the distances are lower… but it still looks amazing... I was very impressed," Liu said. "Unless you pointed a lot of changes out to me I probably wouldn’t have noticed them.” Playing on such a small screen compared to the 4K displays and TVs you have on PCs and consoles, it is true that it would be pretty hard to see the visual differences unless players are actively looking for them.
Liu also confirmed that all expansions and downloadable content will also be available on the Switch. Overall, Liu says that those who will be playing The Witcher 3 on the Switch for the first time will definitely enjoy their experience.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be launched both physically and digitally on the Nintendo Switch in 2019.
