LAS VEGAS – Huawei is ready to take on the U.S. is a big way. The Chinese manufacturer introduced its Honor sub brand to the U.S. Tuesday night at a launch party at Caesar’s Palace during CES 2016.
The first device to tackle the U.S. market is the Honor 5X, a device with a mix range of specifications and an attractive $199.99 prices tag. “America we have come prepared,” said Honor president George Zhang during the launch event.
The Honor 5X is geared toward millennials, a demographic, which Honor says values most, their individual personalities and everyday adventures and who have high expectations for products and services.
The Honor 5X features a 5.5-inch Full HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chip with Andreno 405 GPU, 2GG of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, a 13-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front camera, a 3,000 mAh battery and category 6 LTE speeds.
The smartphone will be available in silver, grey, gold color options, with a diamond-polished aluminum finish. Design wise, the Honor 5X favor’s the Honor 7 flagship, which is popular in Huawei’s Eastern markets.
The Honor 5X also includes dual, micro and nano SIM slots and a micro SD slot as well as a rear fingerprint scanner, which unlocks in 0.5 seconds and supports 360 fingerprint recognition.
In a game show style, an Honor executive compared the 5X to eight of the top smartphones currently on the market, and claiming the Honor 5X out performs these devices on several features, including battery capacity, storage expansion, and dual SIM, among others.
The Honor 5X is available for pre order as of Wednesday at Huawei’s HiHonor.com as well as at Amazon and NewEgg. The device will hit U.S. markets Jan. 31.
