LAS VEGAS -- ZTE has been on an ongoing quest to gain market recognition and is taking a page out of the playbooks of Xiaomi and Motorola to grow its fan base. The Chinese manufacturer announced Tuesday at CES, Z-Community, a consumer run forum, which allows users to connect and be apart of the creation of future ZTE smartphones.
“This group will define the next generation of devices that potentially lead the way in creating totally new products and services,” said ZTE vice president of strategic market, Andrew Elliot at a ZTE press conference at the Mandalay Bay Convention center in Las Vegas.
Those interested can register at community zteusa.com for a chance to be apart of Z Community. The forum not only allows consumer who are members to give their input on ZTE devices, it will come with member benefits; however, ZTE has yet to give further details.
While the company has been mum on future plans until now, it appears there is an all around push for user involvement in the development of upcoming devices. ZTE also announced Tuesday its plans for a product called Project CSX, which will be unveiled at CES in 2017. The device will be completely consumer sourced, taking ideas directly from consumer feedback.
ZTE gave an idea of how Z Community and Project CSX may work, proposing to its CES audience, a feature called Flex Screen, which would be ab alternate screen users can eject from a smartphone and use when it is needed. Consumers can tweet their thoughts at ZTE with the hash tag #zcommunity.

ZTE also announced some products and services for current consumer use. On the tail of the 2015 Axon phone, ZTE's first premium smartphone for the U.S. and its Axon Passport warranty program, ZTE announced which now allows users to receive unlimited repairs out of warranty, as well as a total assistance promise, which includes support for device upgrades, replacement, shipping, and setup.
ZTE also announced at its press conference the ZTE Grand X 3 smartphone, which will sell at Cricket Wireless for $129.99 later in January. The LTE smartphone includes a Qualcomm 1.3GHz processor, 16GB of internal storage, an 8-megapixel rear camera an 2-megapixel front camera, among other features.
The ZTE Avid Plus will sell at T-Mobile and MetroPCS for $114.99. With a focus on fast connectivity, the smartphone incudes a Qualcomm 1.1GHz processor and 1GB of RAM with LTE speeds.
