Supercell has released an optional update that tones down the excessive notifications added into the game by the Clash of Clans May update. The changelog for the optional update doesn’t mention the fix, simply citing the same changes unveiled with the Clash of Clans May update.
Some of the notifications Clash of Clans players have been complaining about include “Your troops need a leader!” and “Oops, did you forget to train your army?” Other Clash of Clans players are complaining about notifications regarding spells, even though they may be out of Elixir or currently in the middle of an upgrade timer.
Supercell has now limited these notification updates to once every 12 hours. And if you’re wondering why this reflects well on the company, well, check out this article by a former Design Ethicist at Google. Freemium iOS and Android games are essentially virtual slot machines, and Supercell has deliberately traded short term profit for their players long term sanity, which is admirable.
Unfortunately, for iPhone Clash of Clans players, there’s no way to filter notifications from Clash of Clans without blocking all the notifications from the game. You can block Clash of Clans notifications by going to Settings —> Notifications —> Clash of Clans.
If you choose to do this, you’re losing out on the notifications that tell you when your army is finally ready for battle, or when hero countdown timers are up (Although, hero regeneration time is finally included in the army overview window).
Android users have more luck however. Using a combination of Tasker and Notification Listener, it’s possible to filter out the needless Clash of Clans notifications by using keywords to block the ones you don’t want.
Redditor /u/kniteshade explains how to do so in detail here, but in short, you’ll want to copy over the notifications filters featured in the pictures embedded below (Second embed is an album).
