Remedy has released the second and final DLC expansion for Control, named AWE. The expansion ties into Remedy's previous game, Alan Wake. Previously, the developer had announced its interest in connecting all of its games in a single Universe called the Remedy Interconnected Universe.
Control's Creative Director Sam Lake also posted a tweet stating that Control's AWE expansion will be ”an overwhelming feeling of terror and wonder inspired by authority or by the sacred or sublime.”
In AWE, Bureau Director Jesse Faden will visit the Investigation Sectors of the Oldest House and the Federal Bureau of Control will have to closely examine the Altered World Events. The expansion will become available to play after completing the seventh main campaign mission. While exploring the Investigations Sector, players will have to confront a creature lurking around the long-abandoned part of the Bureau.
To reclaim this sector, Jesse will have to explore the Altered World Events, which also includes the Bright Falls town where she learns more about Alan Wake's disappearance.
The AWE expansion can be purchased for $15, or you can buy the DLC pack for $25, which also includes the previously released The Foundation expansion. You'll also get both of these expansions when buying the Ultimate Edition of the game. Control Ultimate Edition also includes an upgrade to the next-gen Control release once it is available, and it is the only way to get the next-gen upgrade for the game without buying a new copy when it releases.
With the release of the AWE expansion, Control Ultimate Edition has been also released on Steam.
Additionally, the game received a free August update which comes with a bunch of improvements including Assist Mode, a Multi-Launch upgrade for Jesse's Launch ability, and additional checkpoints.
Players will now also find more Control Points near Boss Fight locations. Once the update has been installed, players are encouraged to restart their hardware before playing.
Control is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The next-gen version of the game can be played on PS5 and Xbox Series X when those consoles become available.
