Crash Bandicoot is back with the remastered N. Sane Trilogy for PS4. Announced at the PlayStation Experience, Activision announced the price of the trilogy at $39.99. On the PlayStation blog, Game Director Dan Tanguay explained the difference between a remaster and remake. So here it goes:
Crash Bandicoot is around 20 years old, so in order to capture the essence of this classic, Tanguay describes the N. Sane Trilogy as a “remaster plus”. To breakdown what the “remaster plus” entails, the team at Vicarious Visions made it their goal “to truly understand what made the Naughty Dog games so special and why fans still love to play them to this day.”
The crossover between remaster and remake is in the code and even though the original Crash Bandicoot is unusable legacy code, it does not mean it couldn’t be used for inspiration. With that, technically, the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is a remake because the new Crash Bandicoot gameplay was rebuilt from scratch in order to capture its “simplicity and precision.” Imagine a port of the original to a PS4 Pro, what would that be like? Vicarious Visions added its midas touch of “zany art, animation, and audio.” That is essentially all a Crash Bandicoot “remaster plus” needed.

Talk about a blast from the past. Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is going to be nostalgic with a nice modern touch. What’s even more comforting is Vicarious Visions dug deep into Naughty Dog roots to bring back Crash Bandicoot so that it appeals to once-before players and also to a newer generation that missed out on this classic. Crash Bandicoot is now available for pre-order on the PS Store in North America. Check out the trailer below.
