In less than two weeks since its initial release, Cuphead’s The Delicious Last Course DLC now totaled 1 million in sales, an impressive feat even for the indie run-and-gun darling. The return of Cuphead and Mugman was celebrated by many following nearly five years, especially given that The Delicious Last Course itself took more than four years in development following numerous delays. Here’s the statement from developer Studio MDHR celebrating the success of Cuphead’s The Delicious Last Course.
It hardly feels possible to be typing these words, but here goes: in a little over a week since the game’s release, our Cuphead expansion The Delicious Last Course has gone platinum, selling 1 million copies across all platforms! This marks an even quicker timeline than it took for the original game to achieve this momentous feat, and we are just beside ourselves with joy and appreciation. These words certainly do not encompass how grateful we are, but to the amazing Cuphead players worldwide we say nonetheless: thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Cuphead was met with major critical acclaim when it was first released in 2017 on Windows PCs and Xbox One. It is notable to this day for its incredibly high difficulty which spawned the infamous topic of difficulty in video games and players’ criticism of some outlets and sites over their inadequacy in gameplay. Despite criticisms of “being too hard” lobbied over the game, Cuphead became a beloved first title for Studio MDHR, with many singling out its extreme attention to detail with its incredibly unique (and taxing) art style reminiscent of 1930s cartoons.
The Delicious Last Course features a brand-new isle where Cuphead and Mugman help Ms. Chalice, a brand-new character. Ms. Chalice is special in that she is the only character in the game who can double jump, use an invincible roll mechanic similar to Dark Souls, and do a dash, which also acts as a parry.
Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, GOG, and the Microsoft Store.
