The second major Darkest Dungeon expansion heads to PC and consoles in 2018, Red Hook Studios announced this week, bringing new enemies, quests and trinkets to one of the hardest dungeon crawlers we’ve ever encountered. It’ll be a few months before fans get their hands on The Color of Madness, but it sounds like the Darkest Dungeon team has plenty of new ideas for the game’s next round of downloadable content.

Technically, The Color of Madness is the third post-launch release for Darkest Dungeon. First came The Crimson Court, a massive expansion that broadened every facet of the core game. There were new trinkets, maps, Hamlet buildings and enemies, along with new bosses (one of whom was a wanderer) and Darkest Dungeon’s 17th hero class, the Flagellant. Then came The Shieldbreaker, a much smaller add-on featuring the game’s 18th hero class, the Shieldbreaker, and a smattering of other new content. Now Red Hook is going all out again with The Color of Madness and they’re already giving players some information about what to expect.

Red Hook says TCM will introduce a new currency, Comet Shards, which can be spent at the Nomad Wagon for “trinkets with new and powerful functionality.” Darkest Dungeon will get a new faction, name to be revealed at a later date, based in the old windmill and concerned only with “spreading the all-consuming influence of the Comet’s light.” The studio says we can also expect at least one new quest type when The Color of Madness debuts next year. But additional information, including pricing details, won’t be available until a later date.

The studio also provided updates on existing Darkest Dungeon DLC that remains exclusive to PC (for now). Red Hook says Shieldbreaker should hit PS4 and Vita on Wednesday, Dec. 6, but there’s still no timeline for the hero-focused DLC to hit iPad. Same goes for Crimson Court. Red Hook says Blitworks, the studio developing the iPad port, should have a timeline soon. Both of the game’s current expansions will also be available on the Switch when Darkest Dungeon makes the jump to Nintendo’s latest hardware. But there’s no timeline for that release yet, either.

Darkest Dungeon is available on PC, PS4 and Vita. The Color of Madness debuts spring 2018.
