The world is still mourning the loss of David Bowie, but if there’s to be any consolation, the legendary musician will posthumously release a plethora of new music. Apparently a collection of unreleased songs will steadily trickle out over the next year or two. The tracks span the course of his lengthy career, which as all Bowie fans know, was full of shifting eras that colored the legacy of the beloved artist.
The news comes by way of Newsweek, who report that a source close to the late rockstar said there is “a long list of unscheduled musical releases that Bowie planned before he died.” It’s not clear whether the releases will feature brand new material or rehashes of formerly released songs, but they will be new to the public nonetheless. The article reports that the first complilations will arrive by sometime in 2017.
In addition to the new Bowie tracks, there is also an upcoming album for Lazarus - the musical that Bowie co-wrote and scored. The off-broadway play is based on “The Man Who Fell to Earth” and stars Dexter’s Michael C. Hall. The play closed on Jan. 20, but the record should drop later this year.
Bowie had also intended to complete his long-proposed autobiography/art book, “Bowie: Object,” but it doesn’t appear that he had the chance to finish it. Almost Famous-filmmaker Cameron Crowe did manage to pen some of his book about Bowie back in the 1970s, but there’s still no word on whether he’s planning on publishing the project.
For now, get your Bowie fix with Blackstar, his newly released final album, which critics have reviewed very well.
