The PlayStation 5 is just a few days away from launch, and the next-gen console packs a ton of features, including the ability to play last-gen games with better graphical fidelity. Recently, some PS4 games that will be playable on the PS5 have been receiving mysterious updates. A recent game to receive such an update is SIE Bend Studio's single-player adventure Days Gone.
Days Gone received a surprising 25GB update, but the patch notes don't seem to justify this massive file size. The official patch notes for the update mention the following changes:
- Added operational stability improvements
- Addressed crashing issues
- Fixed framerate drop and lag issues
- Performance and stability performance
While there's no official word on the update from SIE Bend Studio itself, there's a good chance that the update could be upgrading Days Gone in some way for the PS5.
We understand the questions that fans might have regarding the update. Many of them are likely wondering why the update carries such a big size when it doesn't offer any playable content. Well, my wild guess is that the update could have introduced high-resolution assets like textures and character models, thereby increasing the update size.
The Last of Us Remastered also received a similar update a few days ago, and while the update did not introduce any playable content, players did notice that post update, the game was loading much faster than before. So, there's hope that the same could be the case with Days Gone.
Other PS4 games that have undergone a similar treatment include The Last of Us Remastered and God of War III. When revealing the PlayStation 5 last month, Sony also announced the PS Plus collection, which is a library of PS4 games that fans can enjoy on their PlayStation 5 on the console's launch day.
Days Gone is exclusively available on the PS4. The game will also be playable on the PS5.
