The remake of one of the best games by EA is less than a year away. Motive Studios, the developer of the upcoming Dead Space Remake, held a livestream yesterday. In the said stream, they revealed a ton of information about the title. Several concept arts were shown, and we also saw a small portion of gameplay footage. Fortunately, in the end, they unveiled the official release date.
Release Date and Target Platforms
Dead Space Remake will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on January 27, 2023. The game will not be available on past-gen consoles, so sad news for owners of those consoles. I, however, think that it’s a good thing. This means that the developer could fully utilize the new hardware and not be bogged down by decade-old configuration.
Original Delay
The remake was originally planned for late 2022, yet the developer needed more time which delayed the game to Q1 2023. The dev team seems confident with the release date, so I hope there won't be any more delays.
About the Franchise
The original Dead Space game was released in 2008, and it received positive reception. The game spawned two more sequels, Dead Space 2 in 2011 and Dead Space 3 in 2013. The former received critical reception and was considered a step up from the original. However, the latter was criticized for reducing the horror element and is considered the weakest in the trilogy.
Future of Dead Space
Dead Space 3 ended on a cliffhanger, and even after almost a decade, we don’t have a conclusion to what really happened. Who knows, maybe if the remake is a success, then EA might greenlight a sequel. But before that, I would love a remake of Dead Space 2 and 3 as well. I guess we have to wait for a while to see what happens.
