The Game Awards officially revealed its 2019 nominees, and the full list shows a wide range of 107 different games that span all corners of gaming across different platforms. Leading the way is Death Stranding with seven nominations, nine if you count the two nominations for its voice actors. This is followed by Control with six nominations along with another two for Best Performance.
The nominees are going to be honored at an award ceremony on Thursday, December 12 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles at 8:30 PM ET.
The Game Awards have been called by the New York Times as "the Oscars for the gaming world" and last year reached at least 30 million viewers worldwide. There's no question that it is indeed the Oscars of gaming as it brings together game industry creators, esports champions, digital influencers, and even Hollywood names. The awards night also boasts of exclusive game world premieres, announcements, and musical performances.
This year in particular marks the return of The Game Awards Orchestra, which is conducted by acclaimed composer Lorne Balfe. In addition, this year also serves as the fifth anniversary of the Game Awards, which will once again stream live and free on more than 60 global media platforms.
For 2019, the Game of the Year nominees include Control, Death Stranding, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Resident Evil 2, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and The Outer Worlds. For Best Performance, Death Stranding has two with Mads Mikkelsen as Cliff and Norman Reedus as Sam Porter Bridges.
