When Hideo Kojima left the Metal Gear Solid series, everyone knew he was brewing something great. And while it is too early to suggest, it might actually be legendary. Death Stranding is still in development, but fans have been speculating about what the game is all about. So far, here is everything we have accumulated about the upcoming PS4 exclusive.
Sony is funding Kojima’s project, and will help him publish the first ever Kojima Productions title. Although many are hoping for a PC version of the game, it remains in uncertainty as the tech firm owns the IP.
One of the most interesting things about Death Stranding is the inclusion of Walking Dead star Norman Reedus. He is, based on the trailers released so far, the main character in the game. Despite this footage, it is still hard to tell what this game is about.
For starters, the developers are using the Decima Engine which is basically a modified version of Guerrilla Games’ in-house engine. This engine was used to develop Horizon Zero Dawn, which is another PS4 exclusive.
Death Stranding has been in development for almost four years now, but its official release date remains under wraps. It is believed that Sony will release it two years from now. Of course, it is better to take this assumption with a grain of salt. After all, Kojima himself said that he does not want to rush the development of the game (and he actually does not mind taking a great amount of time doing so).
As far as the official description from Sony goes, here it is:
"Sam Bridges must brave a world utterly transformed by the Death Stranding. Carrying the stranded remnants of the future in his hands, Sam embarks on a journey to reunite the shattered world one step at a time. What is the mystery of the Death Stranding? What will Sam discover on the road ahead? A genre-defining gameplay experience holds these answers and more."
Despite shrouding Death Stranding in mystery, Kojima has been showing the game’s latest developments across the industry. The latest individual to applaud it – and who claimed to have seen the actual gameplay – is Rez creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi. Rumor has it that Kojima might be showcasing another Death Stranding tease at this year’s E3, but seeing as how Sony will not be attending this year's expo, that might not happen.
