Elektra was killed right in front of Daredevil’s eyes in the Season 2 finale, but a new teaser for The Defenders proves she’s coming back… but not in the way most fans hope, at least at first.
The video, released on The Defenders Twitter account, shows The Hand carefully pouring blood into the tomb where they placed Elektra’s dead body in a bright red dress. Steam or dust swirls around the edges of the coffin and we see the top slightly nudge up before the teaser is over.
Whatever The Hand did to try and resurrect Elektra into Black Sky seems to have worked and this isn’t good news for The Defenders. The tweet pretty much proves Elektra will be a villain. “Oh, great,” the tweet reads. “#DEFEND.” Elodie Young, who plays Elektra, added in a tweet of her own, “Did you get your beauty sleep, Elektra?”

Stick tried to prevent Elektra from becoming Black Sky, which he said was her destiny, her entire life. He shielded her by having her join The Chaste, an organization devoted to preventing The Hand from ever getting Black Sky. Unbeknownst to her, she was the evil weapon The Hand seeks.
We still have no idea what this Black Sky is capable of, but there are some plausible explanations. Obviously, there’s a mystical element at play and it could have something to do with Sigourney Weaver’s role and that huge deep hole Elektra and Matt visited in Daredevil Season 2. The location is at Midland Circle and according to the previous Defenders teaser, that’s where all four heroes will meet for the first time. Can’t be a coincidence. This deep hole is obviously important to The Hand, since they are so heavily guarding it.

All we know about Sigourney Weaver’s villain is that she goes by the name Alexandria. Set photos don’t give us any clues about if she’s playing a character from the comics or not. But since that giant deep hole and Black Sky seem like the biggest questions moving from Daredevil and Iron Fist to the Defenders, it seems quite likely Weaver is directly related to The Hand and their ancient origins.
The Midland Circle location was also teased in the New York Bulletin Archive website that came with the black-and-white elevator footage of Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Daredevil. One headline reads, “Midland Circle Rises to New Heights.” Another headline suggests Matt Murdock is not dealing with Elektra’s “death” very well. He doesn’t appear to realize she’s in The Hand’s custody. “Where is the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen?” the headline asks.
It’s unclear what motivates Daredevil to put back on the suit and why Luke Cage and the others discover the hole as well, but we can only hope The Defenders can save Elektra before she becomes Black Sky and goes to the dark side. Before the teaser, she was more of a victim, but now, she seems like more of a villain. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
The Defenders premieres on Netflix in August.
