We’re just a few days away from the start of BlizzCon 2016 , the annual celebration of all the fan-favorite franchises in Blizzard’s portfolio, but all anyone in the Diablo community can talk about are rumors that Diablo 4 could be announced during the show. The rumors first began circulating after a fan noticed an irregularity on dice being sold to virtual attendees of this year’s BlizzCon.
And yes, this is probably one of the weirder stories we’ve published here on iDigitalTimes…but let’s dive in anyway.
Back in July, Blizzard published details on a “goody bag (in a box)” being offered to those who purchased a digital ticket to BlizzCon this year. The $35 package features many items, including a commemorative stein, a set of World of Warcraft coasters, an inflatable Reinhardt hammer and other small collectibles. The box also includes a set of Diablo -themed gaming dice. And it’s this addition that jumpstarted the Diablo 4 rumor mill after some fans noticed an irregularity in the numbering on the set’s four-sided die (commonly known as a D4).
Typically, four-side dice are marked three times on each face, with numbers stamped on any table-touching edge of the pyramid-shaped object. But the D4 included with the Diablo set features non-uniform markings; specifically, one of it’s faces features two ones and a four instead of the standard 1-2-3, 1-2-4, 1-3-4 or 2-3-4 markings. As a result, Diablo fans want to know whether or not the digits, which appear to reference Nov. 4, are being used to tease an announcement that would presumably take place on the first day of BlizzCon. It’s a pretty far stretch but not entirely out of the question, considering we’re four years removed from the debut of Diablo 3 and the rest of dice are labelled correctly. That said, it's also possible some fans are making overly broad assumptions based on the novelty design of an item in a goody bag.

UPDATE: Blizzard declined to comment on the story; however, a representative did point us to this tweet from Diablo creator David Brevik shooting down any speculation that he might be working on a follow-up to Diablo 3.
