There is a new feature that Discord is brewing up for gamers, and this is called the Social SDK. It is currently under beta testing for developers, who are in charge of integrating Discord to their video games.

Throughout the years, Discord has grown popular as a platform for gaming and has been the go-to app for communicating with friends while playing. So far, gamers have to temporarily exit their game's window in order to visit the app, but that will soon change.

Discord to Appear In-Game Thanks to New Social SDK in Beta

Discord has announced the latest feature that it is currently developing for its users who are fond of using the platform while they are gaming.

An SDK, or a software developer kit, is known for being a tool that can help developers build around a certain experience and integrate these features so that they can be available on certain platforms, such as games in Discord's case.

According to the company, it aims to bring Discord to games and make it a native communication feature that will allow gamers to avoid the need to switch tabs between games to access the platform. Moreover, the Social SDK will allow developers to "tap into" Discord's infrastructure and integrate the feature to expand in-game communication at the software level.

Additionally, Discord is making its Social SDK free to access for developers, which means that it can be added to games at no additional cost, depending on the discretion of gaming companies.

Early Partners for Social SDK

Discord said that this new Social SDK is a massive feature to improve gaming and its communication features.

"Developers can not only harness the SDK to power in-game communication and connectivity for all players, but they can also provide an even more integrated and engaging experience for their Discord-connected players while further benefiting from Discord's social features to drive discovery and growth for their games," said Discord.

The company has also announced its early partners where its Social SDK is currently under development and testing, and this includes Theorycraft Games, Facepunch Studios, 1047 Games, Mainframe Industries, Tencent Games, Elodie Games, Scopely, and more.

For now, players would have to wait for a specific game or developer to announce the integration of Discord's communication features into a title.
