The Super Smash Brothers tournament at Dreamhack this year was insane. Everybody showed up, showing some of the best high-level Smash play from the Austin Convention Center. After beating a swarm of talented players, including the legendary Mew2King, Hungrybox and Mango faced off in the Grand Finals. This is a rivalry that’s been going on for years, Mango has lost to Hungrybox in a few finals game, from EVO 2015 to the most recent Battle Of The Five Gods.
The crowd watching these games was electric. The casters, Blur and D1, said: “It feels like everyone at Dreamhack is here, Hearthstone, Counter Strike, everyone is watching, this is history in the making.” They weren’t wrong, Mango finally beat his long time rival two sets to none.
They were hard fought games, the crowd kept switching from Mango to Hungrybox chants. Mango actually switched up to his style a little this tournament, choosing to use lasers heavily and poke from a distance instead of his usual mechanical flair. You could tell the two Smash titans respected each other quite a lot. In the middle of the first set, Hungrybox misses a rest and instead of immediately ending the game, Mango lets him live. Mango ends up losing that game, but winning the overall set.
