'Metaphor: ReFantazio' Has 'Very Positive' Reviews on Steam, 4.7 Stars on Google

There is usually a gap between the time a game is officially announced and its subsequent release to the public. Atlus and Sega took things on a different level with a certain game.

Believe it or not, it took them six years to release the game after its initial announcement. That game is at the center of today's review roundup.

Here's what gamers have to say about Metaphor: ReFantazio.

'Metaphor: ReFantazio'

Released on October 11, 2024, Metaphor: ReFantazio is an anime-style, turn-based RPG developed by Atlus and published by Sega. It was first announced all the way back in 2016, but neither company ever said anything about the game up until last year.

Set in the fictional United Kingdom of Euchronia, the player takes on the character of Will, who participates in a tournament that seeks to find a successor after the previous king was assassinated.

Released in celebration of Atlus' 35th anniversary, the game is available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows.

'Very Positive' Reviews on Steam

Metaphor: ReFantazio has more than 10,000 user reviews on Steam, as of press time. Steam has categorized the reviews as "Very Positive."

"This game has been a really great experience for me," a Steam user named Chantel said in a review. "I've been longing for a fantasy setting and Metaphor: ReFantazio satisfies that longing."

"It does have a lot of similarities to the Persona series, but I personally enjoy this game more than the Persona games," Chantel added.

"This is a game with a lot of personality," user SamuelTheMamuel said in a separate review. "Even the pause menu is a work of art."

"This is a well-made game and if you like the JRPG genre, you will love this," SamuelTheMamuel explained. "I often get tired of repetitive battles in games like this, but the developers made it possible to level up and just real time battle enemies."

4.7 Stars on Google Reviews

Over at Google Reviews, Metaphor: ReFantazio has scored 4.7 stars as of writing.

"Amazing game," Google user Uyen Le said in a review. "The story is so beautiful and well-written."

"The perfect blend of JRPG elements and a true culmination of 35 years of Atlus' RPG titles," X I N I T I I said in a separate Google review. "If you are a fan of JRPGs, you owe it to yourself to play this."
