The first major expansion of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is set to be released tomorrow, May 13, on all the platforms. In Wrath of the Druids, Eivor Varinsdottir’s journey has taken her all the way to Ireland. Here, the newly-appointed High King Flann Sinna is seeking to unite all four different regions into one banner. Along the way, she meets fearsome mythological creatures, discovers secrets of an ancient druidic cult, and learns more about the many mysteries present in Ireland.
New Features
Arriving in new lands means new alliances to forge, new monasteries to raid, and of course, new enemies to battle. Then there are new skills that players can learn. Eivor, for example, has some interesting new abilities like being able to fire off smoke-bomb arrows. This can be used offensively to open up opportunities in combat or defensively to make a quick escape. When the going gets tough, Eivor can summon Irish hounds to fight with her.
Eivor also gets some help in combat with her access to sickles as a new melee weapon type. Of course, it’s not all battles as Eivor can put up trading posts to get those valuable rewards and help foster those alliances.
A Quick Background
Early in this new expansion, Eivor is going to be asked to retrieve an object known as the Book of Kells from a mysterious cult. In reality, this book is actually an illuminated manuscript that has the four gospels of the New Testament written in Latin. However, in the setting of the game, this same book would have been a few decades old and plays a significant role in Ireland’s Christian population, one of which is the High King Flann Sinna.
