Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase recently provided an update regarding the development of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
Before you get too excited, Final Fantasy 7 Remake is still in development for PlayStation 4 and Kitase didn’t offer a release date. However, Kitase told Famitsu magazine (via Siliconera) there are big plans for Final Fantasy 7 Remake in 2016.
“I believe that this year will still be a year of preparations for Final Fantasy 7 Remake,” Kitase told Famitsu. “I’d like to create a new kind of value for the hardware that is the PlayStation 4 for our next announcement.”
It’s unclear what Kitase meant by “new kind of value for the hardware.” One of the biggest surprises from of the Square Enix camp is they were going to create the game using the Unreal Engine. This was a big deal for the company as they normally use their Luminous Engine for their in-house games.
As far as the size of Final Fantasy 7 Remakeis concerned, Kitase recently teased a few details about the world during an interview Dengeki PlayStation. Kitase told the magazine they aren’t concerned about what category their game falls under and are focused on creating the best game possible.
“We can’t say anything yet, but we don’t plan on fussing about whether it’s a so-called open-world or sandbox," Kitase said. "But since Nomura is more focused on the creation of the scenery, we want to express an environment character actions affect the scenery.”
Final Fantasy 7 Remake is in development and does not have a set release date.
