Square Enix has been awfully quiet about Final Fantasy VII Remake lately, devoting all of its energies to Final Fantasy XV. However, we’re likely to hear more about the rebooted hijinks of Cloud, Sephiroth and company come February, when Tetsuya Nomura will appear at a conference in Monaco to discuss the game (and, possibly, Kingdom Hearts 3).
On Feb. 18, Nomura will appear at the 2017 Monaco Anime Game International Conference (MAGIC). The conference’s official website briefly says (via robo-translation), “Tetsuya Nomura, busy with Final Fantasy VII Remake and Kingdom Hearts 3, will honor us with his presence at MAGIC 2017!”
This isn’t a whole lot to go on, and the MAGIC website doesn’t offer any precise details about what Nomura will discuss. However, given the specific mention of FFVIIR and the fact that Nomura’s photo appears next to the iconic Meteor logo, it’s safe to assume Final Fantasy VII Remake will be a key feature of the event.
We’ve known since summer that neither FFVII Remake nor KH3 would debut before the end of Square Enix’s current fiscal year, which ends March 31, 2017. The Amazon presale page for the game lists a release date of Dec. 29, 2017, but that’s likely just a placeholder. However, it does suggest a possibility -- honestly, probably a slim one -- that fans could get their hands on the first installment of the shiny new FFVII around next Christmas.
