Fire Emblem fans outside of Japan have been anxiously waiting for Fire Emblem: Fates to release. But with 2016 here, the wait is almost finally over as the official Fire Emblem: Fates website has launched confirming the Feb. 19 release date.
The latest addition to the franchise will be split in two between Conquest and Birthright that will have two separate stories told from different sides of the conflict. The conflict is between two kingdoms as your character is the heir of Hoshido and raised by Nohrian royals.
As mentioned above, depending on what version you choose the story will be different. Choose Birthright and you’ll battle the corrupted king of Nohr beside a family of strangers. Conquest will have you fight to change your misguided kingdom from within.
But what will Fire Emblem: Fates allow for players to do? Here’s the official details from the Fire Emblem website that details what you can do.
“In this new Fire Emblem experience for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, your customized avatar is the main hero. An army of knights, mages, archers, and more are at your command in the most tactical battles in series history. Each unit and weapon has strengths and weaknesses you must consider for every foe you face. Partner allies on the battlefield so they can support each other in combat. Building relationships is key—the closer your allies become, the better they’ll fight together. Their future is in your hands, but first you must make the most important decision in the history of Fire Emblem.”
There will also be a third version that will be released later in 2016 that will allow owners of one version to get the third version as downloadable content. Nintendo revealed that the distribution of the third version of Fire Emblem: Fates outside of Japan will be after the release of Birthright and Conquest.
Here are the features from the website that includes details on the third version and how amiibo work with the game. It also details some of the DLC maps that will be made available which were revealed in 2015 with the Japanese release.
For the first time in the Fire Emblem™ series, your customized avatar is the main character.
Epic storyline centered on your avatar, forced to choose between bloodline and family who raised you.
New “My Castle” area allows you to interact with your allies and build stronger relationships.
Tap in corresponding compatible Fire Emblem amiibo™ figures and Marth, Ike, Lucina, and Robin will appear in your game, ready for you to battle and recruit.
A third story path will be available for owners of Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright or Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest to buy digitally in-game, called Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation.
Downloadable content (DLC) will be available, including one free map and six additional maps for purchase.
