The new Flash suit debuted in the trailer for Season 3 episode 19, “Once and Future Flash.” However, fans are freaking out because the preview may have purposely cut out two parts of Barry Allen’s body: his legs and fingers. This means we can’t see what color boots The Flash has on and if he’s wearing the special piece of tech we’ve been hoping for in a suit upgrade: his Flash ring.
While it would be somewhat understandable if the new suit lacked the ring, The Flash at least needs to be wearing yellow boots to match his new belt. The costume shown in the preview looks more similar to the New 52 version with defining yellow lines, arm bolts, an exposed zipper and a full gold belt. The ring would allow Barry to compress and conceal his costume with the push of a button. We see Eobard Thawne use this same tech in The Flash Seasons 1 and 2. Barry even asked Cisco to reverse-(pun intended)-engineer it, but the team has yet to figure out how.
Barry future self wears the suit in 2024, the year Barry will travel to in episode 19. “Once and Future Flash” airing on April 25 may not be a coincidence either – that’s the same day as the ‘Flash Missing Vanishes in Crisis’ headline in The Central City Citizen, where Iris West-Allen is no longer the author.
The episode will take place after Savitar kills Iris and shows a disheveled ‘five years in hell’ version of Barry Allen with long greasy hair. In 2024, Wally is shown in a wheelchair and Killer Frost is out and about, so it’s clear Savitar has done some serious damage to the team.
The Flash costume we see next episode may not mean we’ll see Bary running around in it anytime soon since it’s only shown in 2024. But that doesn’t mean Cisco won’t become technologically inspired and rebuild the suit in present day.
