Who is Savitar? If you guessed Future Flash, a.k.a Future Barry Allen, you were right … kind of. This version of Barry Allen looks super, super evil, you can just see it in his eyes.
Aside from an epic battle between Killer Frost, Vibe and The Flash, there wasn’t much revealed about Savitar’s origins except the fact he’s from the very distant future. However, we did learn a bit about his protective armor. Tracy Bland, the physicist from the future, explained Savitar’s suit is made out of “strange metals.” Savitar travels so fast, he needs the suit to neutralize the charge around him. If Team Flash were to build a device capable of harnessing that power, they could use his own velocity against him and trap him in the speed force. This plan could save Iris. At this point, it’s Barry’s only hope.
But there’s still more to learn about Savitar, which could help The Flash and Co. figure out how to stop him when it comes down to the final moments (which, we know it will according to the episode synopsis.) Here’s what we still need to know.
How Did Future Barry Get So Fast?
Since Barry Allen is Savitar this proves he’s the fastest man (god?) alive. If it’s not all due to the protective suit, how is this possible? There could be a way for Barry to get faster to prepare for the faceoff.
The Scars
Barry can heal, rapidly. How does future Barry have scars all over his face? Tracy Brand pointed out that Savitar travels so fast, the velocity could hurt him without the protective suit. Maybe that’s how he got the scars.
What Time Is He From?
Savitar knows every step Barry takes, every move he makes, because he’s lived through it himself. If this is the current version of Barry Allen, when after Iris’ death did he go to the dark side?
Where?
This could be more of a question of where, than when, if some fan theories prove true. Is this a Flashpoint version of Barry Allen that got erased in time? Is this the time remnant that got sucked into the speed force during Barry’s battle with Zoom last season? Is this the version of Barry that ‘Vanishes In Crisis’ in 2024? The message from Barry Allen to Rip Hunter from 2056 on Legends where he says to “trust nobody, not even himself” is also suspicious.
Why Does He Want To Kill Iris?
We get it, this is an evil version of Barry Allen from the future. But killing Iris is so specific. Dude can travel at like a gazillion miles an hour and has people worshipping him, what else could he want? Savitar has said he doesn’t want to kill Barry. When Barry travels to the future to look for clues about Savitar’s identity, we see Savitar didn’t have an interest in killing anyone but Iris. What does killing Iris fix?
What Did Jay Garrick Mean?
Jay Garrick, the original Flash, said he thought Savitar was just a myth. Jay also said he was the first human the speed force ever granted power and he only hunts speedsters when he believes them to be a threat. Where did Jay hear this from? Because this doesn’t really make sense if Savitar is Barry. Does Future Flash call himself Savitar because there have been others before him?
What’s With That Cult Stuff?
Earlier this season, we see a bunch of followers in hoods kneeling to Dr. Alchemy. At this time, Dr. Alchemy was being controlled by Savitar. Savitar could literally speak through him. It’s quite possible these are followers of the God of Speed, Savitar, not Dr. Alchemy, who turned out to be an innocent victim of Savitar’s plans to get at Barry Allen. It’s clear there’s more to Savitar than just the Future Flash.
The Flash Season 3 episode 21, “Cause and Effect,” airs Tuesday at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
