The Flash Season 4 speculation is in full swing ahead of San Diego Comic Con, and at the forefront today is the addition of Elongated Man to the cast. The scoop comes from the somewhat reliable Hashtag Show, who claims the character will be a recurring guest star and series regular in Season 5.
[RALPH DIBNY AKA ELONGATED MAN] Male, Mid to late 30s, Open Ethnicity. Think Ryan Reynolds or Chris Pratt, Ralph has the ability to stretch his body to super-human lengths and sizes… however, while resculpting his old body is easy to do, Dibny finds losing the old misguided sense of truth and slobbery, even after joining the team at S.T.A.R. Labs, is a far more difficult task to accomplish. MAJOR RECURRING GUEST STAR WITH A SERIES REGULAR OPTION FOR NEXT SEASON
Created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino, Elongated Man is a hero who often ran with the Justice League in the comics. His origins are fairly entertaining. Interested in a popular soda named “Gingold,” Ralph studied chemistry to find the extract of the “gingo” fruit of the Yucatan. That’s how he gained his powers of elasticity, because the fruit activated his latent metahuman gene. Upon first meeting The Flash, he’s thought of as a criminal, but Elongated Man actually ends up helping The Flash. While he can stretch his body to extreme limits and has enhanced flexibility and durability, he’s not so malleable that he can essentially shape shift like similar heroes such as Plastic Man.
Given Elongated Man’s scientific background, there could be a place for him on Team Flash. Or, since Barry no longer works for the Central City Police Department, it’s possible Ralph will take his place and work alongside Julian, who also may be absent and in search of Killer Frost, moving to Team Flash full time.
The cast descriptions also mention Clifford Devoe, aka the Thinker, who was teased in Season 3 by Abra Kadabra. It also appears DeVoe has an assistant in a woman named The Mechanic. It’s still unclear when and how these two characters will be introduced.
[CLIFFORD DEVOE AKA THE THINKER]–Male, 40s-50, Open Ethnicity. After being struck with dark matter from the particle accelerator explosion, Clifford Devoe became a meta-human with a mega-mind. A Stephen Hawking-esque genius who’s devised an intricate plan to fix all that he deems wrong with humanity. “The Thinker” will embark upon a season long battle with The Flash that pins the “fastest man alive” against the “fastest mind alive.” FRACTIONAL (7/13) ONE SEASON SERIES REGULAR

[THE MECHANIC]–Female, 30s-40, Diverse. A highly intelligent engineer who designs and assembles a plethora of devices for the ailing Clifford Devoe. Devoe’s right hand, she’s the truest of true-believers who’ll stop at nothing to implement his plan to fix all that’s wrong with humanity-even if she loses who she is in the process.
