Everything went as planned in The Flash Season 4 Episode 1, “The Flash Reborn.” Team Flash got The Flash back from the speed force and The Thinker's plan for The Flash is in motion. It’s anyone's guess as to what happens next, but there are are three easter eggs that could tease what’s to come.
Trial Of The Flash
“Your Honor, I’m innocent. I didn’t do this! I didn’t kill anyone!” Barry says in his mania when he first arrives back from the speed force. This may not seem like anything important, but if you think about The Flash’s comic book history, it’s certainly recognizable.
In the Trial of The Flash story arc (The Flash #340), the scarlet speedster was on trial for the murder of Reverse-Flash. That murder occurred at Barry’s wedding with his second wife in the comics, Fiona Webb. Reverse-Flash attempted to kill Fiona, just as he did Iris. Barry, in defense of his soon-to-be wife, accidently kills him.
Back in the first season of The Flash, Barry’s encounter with the speed force revealed he (in a possible future) ends up with prison. There’s a strong chance Barry lived through this moment over and over while he was in the speed force for six months. To a speedster, that amount of time is nonlinear and almost like an eternity.
Tornado Twins
Barry Allen and Iris West-Allen had children in the comics. Their names were Don and Dawn and they had superspeed just like their father. They would work as a team and disguise themselves by spinning rapidly. That trademark earn the siblings the name Tornado Twins. Barry mentioned diapers and “more diapers” when he came back from the speed force experiencing a myriad of uncontrollable thoughts. With Iris and Barry set to get married this season, fans can only wonder if children are next.
Linda Park and Wally West also had twins in the comics. This set, Jai and Iris West II, weren’t exactly speedsters like their father. Iris could vibrate through objects and Jai could superaccelerate muscles to gain temporary super strength.
The Blacksmith
In the end of the episode, we see Caitlin Snow still has Killer Frost tendencies. While she’s fighting off her manager, we learn he’s connected to someone named Amunet. That’s Amunet Black, aka the Blacksmith, who will soon be played by Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica). This character is from the comics and she runs and underground black market dubbed “the network” in Central City. She’s aligned with the Rogues and many villains we’ve seen on The Flash before--Weather Wizard, Mirror Master, Magenta, Girder, Trickster and Plunder.
What do you make of these easter eggs? Let us know in the comments. The Flash Season 4 airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
