Neil Patrick Harris will not reprise his role as the voice of Music Meister from the 2009 episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold . Instead, Glee alum Darren Criss, who previously worked with Melissa Benoist and Grant Gustin, has secured the role.
“With our Flash and our Supergirl being Glee alums, how could we not have them go up against another Glee favorite like Darren Criss?” Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg tells TVLine. “We have been blown away by his talent over the years and we can’t wait to see what he brings to the Music Meister.”
The crossover, titled “Duet,” is set to air Monday, March 20 and Tuesday, March 21 at 8 p.m. E.T. Dermott Downs will direct, not Joss Whedon as previously rumored. The network highlights performances from Grant Gustin, Melissa Benoist, Jesse L. Martin, Victor Garber, Carlos Valdes, Jeremy Jordan and John Barrowman. David Harewood and Chris Wood are listed as non-singing guests.
Gustin teased the possibility of his Glee co-star making an appearance on The Flash last year, Entertainment Weekly reports.
“I was just talking to Darren [Criss] recently and saying that,” Gustin shared, referring to Criss’ friendships with Carlos Valdes and Andy Mientus, who played Pied Piper in Season 2. “I’m like, ‘Dude, we gotta get you on this show, we gotta get you in on this thing.’ I don’t know in what capacity but he’s got to.”
Looks like Gustin got his wish, though the two won’t be very good friends during the episode. Music Meister controls people through song, basically hypnotizing his victims to believe the world is singing around them. Do you think Criss is a good fit for the role? Let us know in the comments below!
The Flash returns Jan. 24.
