Following its initial showing at E3 2019, and again during SDCC, publisher Square Enix and developer Crystal Dynamics have now finally officially released the first gameplay footage walkthrough for the highly-anticipated Marvel’s Avengers. This big-budget title also had its first playable build at Gamescom 2019, where attendees can participate in a Hero tutorial. Players have the chance to play as Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow and Thor. Check out the gameplay walkthrough below, which details the events of A-Day, an integral starting point to Marvel’s Avengers original story.
While there is certainly a lot to praise in terms of the fluidity of animations and the graphics themselves, my first impressions of Marvel’s Avengers still remain tepid at best. There’s a very generic feel to the combat for all the heroes save for Captain America; his actually feels weighty and believable in direct comparison to the others.
The voice acting is also pretty underwhelming, but I think that this is because most of us have been trained to recognize these characters from the voices of the MCU actors that really made them household names. That said, with the game still a way off from its release next year, there could be some changes made to this game to make it worthy of the Marvel franchise, and let’s hope that Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix manage to pull it off.
Marvel’s Avengers will be released for the PS4, Xbox One, PC and Stadia on May 15, 2020.
Be sure to stick around for more news on the latest happenings from Gamescom all throughout the week.
