Gamescom is happening throughout the week, and as such gamers can expect a ton of new announcements surrounding highly anticipated titles, as well as new releases from publishers and developers. Nothing beats the excitement surrounding fresh news on upcoming titles, and these are at the center of the five-day major gaming event at the Koelmnesse in Germany. Be sure to stay tuned with us the whole week as we bring you the latest from Gamescom 2019 in the form of the latest trailers, announcements, news and other information drops on all the newest games hitting the market.
In less than two weeks, Bloober Team and publisher Lionsgate Games will be releasing their visceral horror title Blair Witch, and as such we’ve been seeing a lot of trailers and information drop for it lately. Based off of the franchise of found footage horror movies started by the critically-acclaimed The Blair Witch Project, Bloober Team’s Blair Witch will see players returning to the Black Hills Forest near Burkittsville, Maryland. The latest trailer for the game dropped during Gamescom, and it showcases the insidious descent into madness of its protagonist, Ellis. Check it out below.
While the earlier trailers were a bit underwhelming due to what seemed to be a pretty big focus on ‘showing’ the monsters that Ellis will face off, this one sets the tone right, taking terror to the next level by giving us a taste of Ellis’ increasing isolation and madness. The trailer showed that before the events, Ellis is undergoing several issues in his life, most likely involving his wife – and if you know your horror media, you’ll know that a big part of what draws psychological horror to these characters are traumatic and bad events that happen in their lives.
Personally, Bloober Team can give us a tragic ending for Blair Witch, and as long as it’s told amazingly, there would be no problem. However, expect some backlash if Bullet, Ellis’ dog, bites the dust; the internet already has a thing for the energetic German Shepherd.
Blair Witch will be released on Xbox One and PC on August 30.
Be sure to stick around for more news on the latest happenings from Gamescom all throughout the week.
