After Alien: Isolation was released back in 2014, fans have been demanding a new game in the series for a while now. As we have recently found out, their wishes came very close to being fulfilled.
Recently, Gears of War creator and Boss Key Productions founder Cliff Bleszinski revealed via a tweet that he was in negotiations with Fox about a new Aliens game. The deal wasn’t completely finalized, but talks started back in 2017. Unfortunately, everything was canned after Disney acquired Fox. The hypothetical Aliens game would have followed a grown-up Newt, the little girl from movie Aliens. Ripley would have taken the role of a “Cortana/Anya” like character, whereas your customary robotic pal character would have been filled by Newt’s doll, Casey. The game was supposed to be in first person mode.
Bleszinski is a respected game developer in the industry. He was the Design Director for Epic Games and then later went on to co-found Boss Key Productions. During his time at Epic Games, he helped create many famous games like Jazz Jackrabbit, Unreal, and Bulletstorm. He was also the creator of the successful Gears of War franchise, which got him the most recognition.
It hasn’t been all good news for him. His latest game, LawBreakers, wasn’t as successful as his previous products and that led to the closure of Boss Key Productions. LawBreakers wasn’t a bad game per se, but became a victim of a bad release window. After the closure of Boss Key Productions, Cliff swore to never make a game ever again, but recently said that he might come back sometime in the future. As of now, Bleszinski is working on a memoir.
We can only hope that one day he will come back and give us one more hit game, just for old times’ sake.
