Gears of War 4 developer The Coalition is teaming up with StoryLab Productions for a new IP, but we have no idea what it could be yet. This information comes from a page on the StoryLab website.
According to the project page on StoryLab’s site, The Coalition began development of its new IP in 2017. Unfortunately, that’s all the information the page offers. The Coalition’s official site does not mention a new IP anywhere. Job postings, a good way to look at what a company is working on next, also did not turn up any clues.
StoryLab Productions is an official Microsoft vendor and has worked with The Coalition on Gears of War 4 and Gears of War Ultimate Edition. The company provided motion capture, casting, production crew and payroll services in the past, and will likely offer the same for whatever this next project will be.
So what is this mysterious, new game? All we can say is what it ISN’T. In related leaks, ResetEra user Klobrille stated The Coalition is involved with the development of a new Perfect Dark game. Seeing as how StoryLab specifically mentioned its next project is a “new IP,” Perfect Dark doesn’t fit. However, Klobrille only mentioned The Coalition is helping develop the new Perfect Dark game, so it’s possible the Gears-focused studio is only lending a hand for aspects of the game. It wouldn’t surprise me to see the studio working on the online multiplayer component while another studio heads up the single-player campaign.
The other items brought up by Klobrille all point to other existing franchises, so we really have no idea what this new game could be. Given The Coalition’s pedigree, it’s likely to be a shooter, and will probably have some sort of online multiplayer. However, it would be a pretty neat surprise to see something completely different from The Coalition like an RPG or platformer. We probably won’t know more until this year’s E3 at the earliest.
So what do you think? Would you like to see a Perfect Dark game from The Coalition? What new IP could StoryLab be talking about? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
