It has been nearly three years since the first announcement of "God of War's" series adaptation, and a new update brings significant news about the project.
To start, Amazon Prime Video already has massive faith in this show being a hit as it has secured two seasons already. In addition, a veteran showrunner has been onboarded to lead the adaptation.
'God of War' Series: Amazon Prime Video Secures 2 Seasons
Almost seven years ago, Sony Sta. Monica gave the world one of the best "God of War" games in the franchise, with the 2018 release winning Game of the Year from The Game Awards and getting its spin-off franchise later on.
Now, the said 2018 game is getting a dedicated series adaptation on Amazon Prime Video that was confirmed in 2022, and the latest updates reveal more about what is happening behind the scenes.
According to ComicBook Gaming, "The Sackoff Show" recently had Robert Moore as a guest in an episode, and the seasoned showrunner revealed that the company has already ordered two seasons of the "God of War" adaptation.
In the television series industry, the norm usually is studios will create a pilot episode and a few more before going on to produce an entire season or two.
However, the same cannot be said for online streaming platforms as they create one entire season before they decide to cancel it or continue its production. Moreover, it was noted by ComicBook Gaming that Amazon Prime Video securing two seasons of a specific franchise for their adaptation is no longer a new thing in the industry.
That being said, this can be seen as good news for the franchise's fans, particularly as it only shows that Amazon Prime Video has massive faith in the upcoming show, with the company going all-in in its production.
Veteran Showrunner to Lead 'God of War' Adaptation
The upcoming "God of War" series adaptation will have a veteran showrunner at its helm in Robert Moore. Some of the best works from Moore include "Star Trek: The Next Generation," "For All Mankind" on Apple TV+, and British period drama "Outlander."
Moore was given the task to lead "God of War's" series adaptation on Amazon Prime Video only several months ago, and he claimed that he is aware that the video game has huge popularity despite never playing it.
