Despite the catastrophic failure that was the Gmail April Fools prank, the Google Maps prank isn’t so professionally destructive. This year, Google has outfitted the Google Maps street view avatar in 70s disco gear and if users know where to look, they can make the little guy take them straight to funky town.
The April Fools makeover last year was a Pac-Man figurine, with the entirety of the map in Google Maps turning into a giant game of Pac-Man. This year, users will need to make sure that they’re logged and have their Google accounts linked to both the browser based version of Google Maps and the mobile app. Once that’s done, Google Map users can get transported to Funky Town by selecting “Visit Funky Town in the Google Maps App” in the browser based version of Google Maps and selecting their mobile device.
Once they do so the bearded, purple leisure suit wearing little dude will start showing off his dance movies for the user.
Google Maps has even changed their official Twitter account name in support of a newfound appreciation of disco, rebranding the mapping service as “Groovy Maps.”
