Alright everyone, the GTA 6 hype train is here. Get on board, because it looks like we have rumors that the game is not only in development, but actually further along than anticipated.
The big news comes from actor Tim Neff’s resume. While there were plenty of acting jobs listed, which could be verified on his IMDb page, the most interesting bit was towards the bottom, where Neff had a whole section devoted to motion capture work. While Neff’s resume is still available to see online, he has edited out all the relevant information.
Don’t worry though, because screenshots exist for a reason. As we can see above, Neff has listed work as a motion capture actor on both Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto 6. So what could all this mean? There’s a few different explanations.
The first is that Neff simply messed up and made a goof. While this seems to be a cop-out answer, it’s entirely possible. I doubt this is the case, however, as when was the last time someone made that big of a mistake when writing and submitting a resume? Unless he’s just super careless, this doesn’t seem like something Neff, or anyone looking for employment, would do.
The next explanation is the one we all hope is true. Neff DID do motion capture work for GTA 6 and made his work public a little too early. If this is the case, GTA 6 could be coming out sooner rather than later. Video game companies tend to do motion capture towards the end of a game’s development because it requires the script to be finished to begin the process.
If this is the case, what does this mean for GTA 6? The only thing we know for sure from Rockstar is that there are new updates continuously rolling out for GTA Online and that Rockstar San Diego is hard at work finishing up Red Dead Redemption 2. It’s theoretically possible that a different Rockstar branch has been working on GTA 6 for a while without it getting leaked. In fact, we can put on our tin foil hats and guess that the whole hubbub about Bully 2 getting “leaked” was just a ruse so fans wouldn’t come sniffing for GTA 6 clues during E3.
An interesting thing about this resume is that Neff mentions he worked on both RDR2 and GTA 6. This could make sense if Rockstar was looking to save some cash and time. Instead of setting up two different motion capture rigs for two different games, it’s possible the developer did motion capture for both games at the same time. Using the same actors would also save some time with casting as well.
While Neff did edit the resume to remove all mention of his motion capture work, all this is just speculation and rumor until Rockstar makes a formal announcement. When could we expect an announcement? Gamescom is coming up at the end of August. It’s possible Take-Two and Rockstar will announce GTA 6 then, but I don’t think that will happen. With a game as big as GTA 6, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Rockstar host its own event at some point when there isn’t any other big news to compete with.
So what do you think? Are you getting excited over the possibility of a GTA 6 announcement coming? Do you think this is all a big misunderstanding? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
