Variety claims to have the inside dirt on casting for the upcoming Han Solo movie, the second in the Star Wars Story series after 2016’s Rogue One. “While talks are still in the early stages,” Variety reports Woody Harrelson is the top choice to appear as a father figure to the young Han Solo, played by Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!).
Harrelson will add some seasoning to a cast of young actors, including Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian and Emilia Clarke in an unknown role. Unlike the deadly serious Rogue One, the Han Solo movie seems likely to be more of a comic romp, particularly with Phil Lord and Chris Miller (21 Jump Street, The Lego Movie) directing.
If Harrelson will indeed be playing a father figure to the young Han Solo, it wouldn’t be much of a reach. Port over his character from The Edge of Seventeen — a phlegmatic, even taciturn, teacher who mentors Hailee Steinfeld — and you’ve got yourself a stew going.
The untitled Han Solo movie is currently set to release May 25, 2018, though rumored to be pushed back to Dec. 13.
