HarmonQuest — the upcoming animated cousin of the Harmontown podcast where Dan Harmon (Rick and Morty, Community), Jeff B. Davis and assorted guests play Dungeons & Dragons — will premiere in July 2016m according to comments Harmon made during a live performance of the show at SXSW. HarmonQuest sees Harmon and company’s progress animated as they play through an RPG based on Pathfinder together.
Harmon was joined onstage at SXSW by Erin McGathy. Earlier that day was apparently the first time the pair had seen one another since their divorce. After Davis brought this up when introducing McGathy to the crowd, she and Harmon tried to fight through the awkwardness. McGathy took umbrage at having her personal business discussed publicly, and repeated Davis’s question, “Did you guys just get divorced,” throughout the night.
Also present was (obviously) Davis (Whose Line Is It Anyway?), Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley), and Spencer Crittenden, the game’s resident dungeonmaster.
As the game master, Crittenden became the de facto showrunner of Harmonquest, Harmon told Den Of Geek!, and created the situations and characters that will be appearing on the show. The game-related portions for HarmonQuest have been taped and finished for months, according to comments made during the SXSW performance.
HarmonQuest will be released on Seeso, a streaming comedy channel from NBCUniversal that launched January 2016. For a sneak peek of what HarmonQuest will look like, io9 posted a short teaser of HarmonQuest almost two years ago.
