Ever wondered what it means to be the Grim Reaper? The upcoming 2D action rogue-lite game Have a Nice Death answers that question for you. It has players take on the role of Death, who is currently the overworked CEO of Death Incorporated, the corporation tasked with processing souls.
The game is still in development by Magic Design Studios. However, it’s coming to Steam Early Access in March 2022 to be priced at $14.99. For now, it’s going to be available on PC and the new Steam Deck console. However, there is a plan to release on other platforms, which is set to be revealed at a later date.
As mentioned, players take on the role of Death where they explore different departments of the corporation and learn about their bosses, also known as Sorrows. Getting these Sorrows and their minions under control could be difficult and may need multiple runs to complete them.
- Features of the game include:
- Welcome to Death Incorporated
- Discover and explore the different procedurally-generated departments of Death Inc. and meet a truly diverse cast of memorable characters.
- Reap What You Sow
- Sharpen your skill through hack-and-slash combat.
- Make use of more than 30 unique weapons and spells.
- Death Never Sleeps
- Since you’re Death, that means you can’t die.
- Use whatever you’ve learned to overcome the minions and bosses of each department.
- There’s a performance review after each run so you’re guaranteed to unlock some interesting items and upgrades.
- When Life Gives You Curses
- Taking more power is an option but could make things difficult for you.
- For example, when you upgrade a Curse for yourself, the Labor Inspector may give your subordinates enhanced powers or even increase the cost of items that are crucial to the work output.
In a statement, Nicolas Léger, Creative Director and Animation Director of Magic Design Studios, shared that the driving force behind the game is the notion of how Death would live if he or she had the same routine as the rest of us. He added that the game offered 2D animation, fast and furious combat, and excellent visual effects, combined with a macabre universe brought to life by the dark but burlesque humor. Léger went on to say that he believes gamers are sure to give this one a try.
If you’re one of those interested, wishlist the game on Steam.
