IGN has revealed the newest Hearthstone: Whispers of the Old Gods card and it’s a remix on an old classic. Ragnaros the Lightlord is an eight mana Paladin 8/8 legendary that says: “at the end your turn, restore 8 health to a damaged friendly character.” Tirion Fordring has been the best Paladin legendary since coming out in the basic set, with no cards – sorry Bolvar Fordragon – coming close to its value or versatility.
Now we have a new Ragnaros , one that can heal for an insane amount each turn. Eight health on a minion or hero can turn the tide of a game. Paladins are getting hit hard by the format change, losing most of their important cards like Shielded Minibot and Mysterious Challenger . Paladin is going to need a new identity, one that doesn’t spam secrets like a mindless robot. Whispers of the Old Gods aims to bring control back into Hearthstone , and this divine demon is a great step.
Unlike its predecessor, Ragnaros the Firelord, Ragnaros the Lightlord can attack. That might not sound like that a big deal, but it really is. You can trade with the Lightlord and then use its effect to heal whatever it lost. Goodbye Savannah Highmane, Druid of the Claw and, if you are playing Wild, Dr. Boom.
I look forward to having my Secret Paladin deck redeemed by Ragnaros the Lightlord when he drops in early April or May.
