More terrific news out of the Nickelodeon camp has been confirmed. A day after announcing the revival of Legends of the Hidden Temple , Nick has greenlit the production of a two-part television movie starring America’s favorite “football head.” Hey Arnold: The Jungle Movie is coming to the small screen sometime in 2017, and will be helmed by original series creator Craig Bartlett.
“It's official!” Bartlett’s Instagram post read. “So glad to be back with my friends at Nickelodeon.”
Variety mentioned the Hey Arnold! movie in yesterday’s Legends of the Hidden Temple report , but did not offer much insight other than a vague release date. Thanks to Bartlett, we now have an official confirmation and subtitle. Hopefully, details on a precise premiere date will emerge in the coming months.
The Hey Arnold! movie news follows a slew of new initiatives from Nickelodeon, including the Hidden Temple renewal, the creation of The Splat - an eight-hour programming block exclusively playing 90s cartoons - and a feature-length, Avengers-style Nicktoons movie helmed by Napoleon Dynamite director Jared Hess.
Nickelodeon seems to have recognized that revived old favorites can attract matured millennials as well as younger viewers. The upcoming Nicktoons movie will feature the Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy, Rocko’s Modern Life, Aaahh! Real Monsters and The Angry Beavers at the very least, with the likely addition of characters from Hey Arnold!, The Wild Thornberrys and Doug.
No word on the plot for Hey Arnold: The Jungle Movie is available at this time of writing. We’ll keep you updated as soon as more information is revealed.
