If you're one of those looking for a sci-fi game, then check out Hidden Deep. According to developer Cogwheel Software, the game is inspired by titles like The Thing, Aliens, and Half-Life. Those alone should give you an idea of what to expect from the game. It's now available on Steam Early Access and offered at 10% off until February 1.
The game starts with the detection of strange anomalies of unknown nature. A group of researchers has organized an expedition to look into this mysterious phenomenon. After 681 days, however, it appears that contact with this team has been lost. Players take on the role of the leader of the second team who's tasked with finding out what happened and rescuing anyone who's still alive.
As the leader, players can control team members directly or give them orders. Missions are accomplished by being able to coordinate different tasks. Players can explore sub-oceanic caves through the use of specialized equipment, such as grappling hooks, scanners, drones, and even heavy machinery.
Features of the game include:
- A rich and dark sci-fi story that pays tribute to '80s and '90s games and movie classics.
- More than 20 hours of gameplay in story mode. To be completed within the game’s Early Access period.
- Challenge mode is available to those looking for more adventures in the deep.
- Local co-op and Remote Play co-op available. Online co-op to be introduced within the game’s Early Access period.
As exciting as those features are, here's what players can expect under Early Access:
- 10 levels story mode.
- 4 challenge modes.
- An optional co-op is available for two challenge modes, where levels can be randomized with seeds, which influence the placement of monsters and items. Tasks are:
- Find the data disk.
- Clear the area.
- Maintain the reactor.
- Leave the sector.
- Local multiplayer is available through splits-screen.
- Online multiplayer via Steam Remote Play Together.
In a post by the development team, one of the things being planned is the implementation of user-generated content through the use of a level editor. Other upcoming pieces of content are additional multiplayer modes, more story levels, and possible PvP.
What do you think? Do you have the courage to face whatever is in Hidden Deep?
