We’ve got another Nintendo Direct upon us, this time a few weeks before E3 2019.
The Nintendo Direct will come on May 15, which is later today, and specifically focuses on the upcoming release of Super Mario Maker 2. The title is expected to be one of Nintendo’s biggest this summer. Nintendo of America announced the upcoming Direct presentation in a tweet, which you can read in its entirety below.
According to Nintendo, the presentation will run for approximately 15 minutes, which is quite short. However, Nintendo promises to pack it full with new information about the Mario level creator which is, in my opinion, one of the best I’ve played. The presentation will air on May 15 at 6:00 p.m. EDT, so be sure to save the time and date so you don’t miss it.
The Nintendo Direct presentation will be streamed from the usual video steaming platforms including the Nintendo Direct website, the Nintendo Twitch account and the Nintendo YouTube channels. Of course, you can expect our coverage after the event with all the details we have on hand, so be sure to stay tuned for that as well.
Super Mario Maker 2’s journey from announcement to release was a relatively short one, with the game being announced back in February’s Nintendo Direct. In terms of gameplay, expect an overhauled and greatly improved system compared to the original Super Mario Maker. However, sharing your own levels will most likely not require the use of Nintendo Online, which is Nintendo’s live services. A lot of other assets from other Super Mario games have also made their way to Super Mario Maker 2, including elements from Super Mario 3D World and the addition of slopes.
As for release, Nintendo has announced several pre-order bonuses for Super Mario Maker 2, most of which are region-locked. It is set to be released on June 28, 2019, a few weeks after E3 2019, where Nintendo will host another Direct in addition to its Nintendo Treehouse events.
