If you’re an iPhone or iPad user with an HTC Vive, there’s good news: HTC has released a companion app for its virtual reality system on the iOS App Store that allows notifications to be forwarded into the VR headset. The app is currently free to download, and a version exists for Android devices.
The HTC Vive iOS app supports forwarding notifications about incoming calls, incoming text messages and calendar appointments. Notifications will pop up in the Vive HUD in real time and will stay around to be viewed later in the Vive’s dashboard. Third-party notifications are unfortunately not supported at the moment, and neither is replying to a notification in-game via the Vive headset.
The Android version of the app supports this feature, however. Because of the way Apple sandboxes iOS services, the same functionality can’t be replicated for iPhone users.
If you’re interested in downloading the app and using the feature for yourself, make sure you have already installed the the Vive utility app on your PC as well. This is how your Vive will receive the messages from your iOS device and forward them to the HUD. This utility app can be downloaded here, and will only work on a Windows PC.
