Insurgency: Sandstorm has revealed that PC players get to experience six more months of free content under a new roadmap. The content is made possible through the excellent support of the community since many of the upcoming content is based on multiple surveys and player feedback.
Beginning July, the free content includes:
- Level editor and tools – mod support is coming!
- Two new maps – includes a snow map and another yet to be revealed location
- Night versions of maps – this includes the release of special nighttime equipment
- New weapons and equipment – toggleable optics, mini-shotgun attachments and more are planned, along with others based on post-launch community surveys
- Hardcore ruleset across all modes – the option for hardcore rulesets will be made available to every game mode
- PvP Frontline & Co-op Outpost game modes – these two new game modes were chosen in Sandstorm’s first community survey. Frontline features two teams in a tug-of-war over multiple objectives to reach and destroy their enemy's weapon cache. Outpost allows players to go on the defensive at randomized locations against waves of enemy AI.
- New character customization – many more cosmetics will be added, for both Insurgent and Security teams.
The actual order of release for this content has yet to be determined.
Insurgency: Sandstorm Lead Game Designer Michael Tsarouhas said that the new content under the roadmap is limited to the PC version. He guaranteed that at least some of the new content mentioned can be included in the console versions. Tsarouhas went on to say though that "[w]hether or not we can put content such as a level editor, specific game modes, and modding tools on consoles is as of now uncertain, but other content such as weapons and maps are more likely. It’s all something we are going to seriously look into, but we aren’t comfortable committing to at this time.” He ended by saying that all of this content is for 2019 and more free content is coming in 2020.
Insurgency: Sandstorm is a team-based, tactical FPS that offers lethal close quarters combat and objective-oriented multiplayer gameplay. This is a sequel to Insurgency with Sandstorm being a reborn, improved, expanded, and bigger version in every way. Players get to experience just how intense modern combat really is while being rewarded for skill and prove that teamwork wins the fight.
