With summer in full swing, it won’t be long before new flagships by Apple and Samsung are on the market. Leaks have surfaced in the last week, claiming to reveal the designs of both devices. What can consumers expect from these two mobile major players?
In 2016, it appears Apple is slowing down, while Samsung is gaining momentum. The iPhone 7 is expected to include minor updates, while the Galaxy Note 7 is expected to see a number of design overhauls and new features. The various leaks for both devices indicate as such.
iPhone 7 Leaks
A leak of the iPhone 7, shared by Dutch blog Techtastic , reveals possible changes to the camera and antenna of the iOS smartphone. In particular, it reveals the iPhone 7 antenna may be located at the top of the device, instead of across its back panel.
While this leak appears to be of an actual handset, in a gold color option, other leaks that have surfaced are of schematics-based renders, which show a computer-generated image of the smartphone.
Images shared by French blog Nowhereelse , show the iPhone 7 may have the long-rumored dual camera configuration. The camera module is wide, indicating that more than one lens may fit in the slot. A similar camera design has been seen on a knock off iPhone 7 handset, currently available in China.
The iPhone 7 is expected to launch in September.
Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Leaks
A leak of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, shared by tech informant Evan Blass, reveals a curved display and several color options for the device. While the Galaxy Note 7 remains unconfirmed, the images appear to be press renders, which greatly increases their likelihood of being real. The image reveals Black Onyx, Silver Titanium and Blue Coral color options for the Galaxy Note 7. The Blue Coral option is a light blue, which is much different than the dark blue option for the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 that Samsung tried to pass off as black.
Another render leak, shared by retailer Mobile Fun may also confirm a USB Type-C port for the Galaxy Note 7. The listing is for a screen protector; however, the accompanying image shows a Galaxy Note 7 handset. Rumors have long suggested Samsung may introduce a USB Type-C port on the Galaxy Note 7. iDigitalTimes suggested in March that the Galaxy TabPro S tablet featuring a USB Type-C port was a test bed for the Galaxy Note 7.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is expected to launch Aug. 2.
