Apple is shifting the App Store to a subscription-based business model, but while it may be easy to sign up for a subscription in-app, it’s certainly harder to get rid of it. Keep in mind that there are two sorts of subscriptions on iOS: App Store based, and third-party.
Third-party subscriptions are handled off your device and you’ll need to visit the service or developer’s website to break the auto-renew cycle. Spotify for example offers third-party subscription services, with your accounts details being tracked by your username/login.
To break an App Store subscription, the process is relatively easy, even if it’s not as clear as it could be. Click on Settings -> iTunes & App Store (it’s the second option in the fourth cluster down) and then find your Apple ID email address at the very top of the page.
If you’re not logged in, you may need to log in before this is possible. Once you’ve done so, click on your Apple ID email address and then hit “View Apple ID” in the menu that pops up. Enter your password, and click “Manage” under the “SUBSCRIPTIONS” tab. It should be the fourth option down.
From here, click on the app subscription or service you no longer want to pay for, and then hit the toggle button under “RENEWAL OPTIONS” to turn it off. Tada, you are no longer subscribed.
Consider using virtual credit card numbers in the future while signing up for subscriptions if your bank offers the service. Bank of America calls it ShopSafe , while Citi just calls it Virtual Account Numbers.
