Apple has released an update for iTunes less than a week after responding to user complaints that their music libraries were being deleted inadvertently. While Apple said they couldn’t replicate the iTunes music library deleting bug in-house, they did promise various patches to help safeguard against this via an imminent update.
Officially called iTunes 12.4, the new version of Apple’s flagship desktop music management program brings with it interface design changes, as well as the aforementioned safeguards and other background fixes that some people are saying have sped the program up dramatically.
Also introduced with the 12.4 update are revamped menus for the toolbar, with more customization now possible via the View menu. Tweaked features include the ability to to use the Back/Forward buttons to go between a personal music library, Apple Music and the iTunes store, the return of the iconic sidebar and an improved media picker dropdown menu for switching between different media formats (such as music compared to TV shows).
It will soon be time for the annual Apple OS updates, with Apple expected to announce major redesigns of iOS, Mac OS X, watchOS and tvOS at WWDC June 13. The iOS 10 update is rumored to include an improved reboot of Apple Music, while the Mac OS X update will supposedly rename Apple’s desktop operating system to macOS.
