The RPG dungeon-crawler Kowloon Highschool Chronicle is now available on PlayStation 4. This is a remaster of the original game of the same title that was released last year on Nintendo Switch.
The original game was released in Japan on PlayStation 2 back in 2004. It is considered to be part of the Gakuen Juvenile Denki genre or young adult school fantasy. While the game, along with those in the same genre, has been considered a cult classic in Japan, it hasn't received that much attention in the West, particularly in North America. The remastered version was released in 2020 on Switch, which received English localization the next year.
The game is set in Shinjuku, Tokyo, where a young man joins Kamiyoshi Academy as a transfer student. He looks like a normal student but he’s actually a treasure hunter. His mission is to learn more about the mysterious ruin hidden under the school.
Joining him on his adventure to learn more about the mysteries of an ancient civilization are new friends from school. It’s not going to be easy since, in addition to the numerous traps, there are also monsters known as “Kehito” that lurk in the ruins. Of course, there’s also the “student council” that stands in the way of the treasure hunter.

- Players can select from a wide range of different friends, classmates, and allies, and brave the darkest of dungeons in search of adventure and untold wealth.
- Players need to build their team with care as the enemies and dungeons present a true challenge.
- Having the wrong teammates can lead to certain doom.
