As far as announcements go, it doesn't get any better than this: Naughty Dog stunned the crowd at PlayStation Experience with its chilling The Last of Us Part II sequel trailer. It has been three years since The Last of Us ended on a big cliffhanger. Joel and Ellie sacrificed a great deal in the first game. Now, all the have are each other. Check out the teaser in the video above.
Naughty Dog eases us into the teaser trailer with a Firefly symbol stenciled to a Stop sign. Next, we see a close-up of battered knuckles gently strumming a guitar. Playing a guitar suggests a rare moment of tranquility in The Last of Us' infected-infested world. However, Ellie's song suggest nothing but frightening determination and purpose.
"I walk through the valley of the shadow of death / And I fear no evil cuz I'm blind to it all / And my mind, my gun, they comfort me / Cuz I know I'll kill my enemies when they come."
As Ellie plays her song inside a bedroom, Joel walks through the front door and over the bodies of the poor souls that, presumably, dared to cross Ellie's path... Were they Fireflies?
"What are you doing, kiddo? You really gonna go through with this?"
"I'm gonna find and I'm gonna kill every last one of them."
It's unclear what happened to Joel and Ellie, but they've definitely been through some shit. A bite mark on Ellie's neck reminds us of her rare immunity to the fungal infection, which is a crucial part to the original story and will likely be a very important element to the sequel's storyline as well.
Stay tuned as we expect to hear more from Naughty Dogs about The Last of Us Part II in the months ahead.
