ESPN just announced that NRG has just added three new players to their League of Legends team roster. Santorin, Kiwikid and Quas will join GBM and a yet unknown ADC on the team. Last split, NRG struggled to really find their place, ending the season in fifth place with a 9-9 record. Altec, Moon and KonKwon will be leaving the team, most likely to join a Challenger series team.
GBM was hyped up like crazy at the start of last split, but never really delivered. His first few games were amazing, he managed to steal Baron twice with a Viktor laser in just one game. After that though, he seemed to falter, being put on control mages that never really fit his style. Hopefully with this star-studded team, we might finally get to see what GBM has to offer.
Quas was Team Liquid’s top laner until an unmentioned event happened inside the house that forced him to quit. He’s long suffered with depression and took the time off from the LCS to try and gather his thoughts and come back with a fresh mindset. Quas has always been a top-tier top laner, who rose to popularity playing Swain Venezuela with insanely high ping. Hopefully Quas can leave his problems behind him and shine once more.
Santorin has had a difficult LCS career. He joined Team SoloMid for one split, leaving last October. Since then he’s bounced around a few different Challenger teams. He was a part of Team Huma, a team that was wrought with financial and ownership problems that were catalogued in a series of accusational reddit posts . He was sold to Team Ember, but the Challenger series team never qualified for the LCS. Santorin is a great jungler, but who knows if that is enough for him to stay in the LCS this time.
Picking up Kiwikid makes a lot of sense. He’s a career veteran and the longest working NA LCS player. His last split was a disappointment: Team Dignitas ended their season in last place with a 4-14 record. Even so, Kiwikid has a lot of League of Legends knowledge and knows all the ins and outs of his champion pool.
NRG looks like a serious contender now, though it’s impossible to know how all these random players will mesh together.
