After teasing us for way too long, tonight's Nintendo Switch presentation saved the best for last by confirming that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be coming to the Nintendo Switch on March 3, 2017.
That one fact may be what gets that $299.99 console with the goofy concept moving off the shelves, because I know I'm not alone in being willing to plunk down $360 at one go just to get my hands on the incredible-looking Breath of the Wild. (Read our E3 impressions here. Tl;dr: Game looks good, y'all.)
During the new trailer, an old lady says, "The history of the Royal Family of Hyrule is also the history of Calamity Ganon, a primal evil that has endured over the ages." We see malevolent threads of fuscia and midnight twining around an ancient castle, strange creatures and vaguely steampunk doohickeys, and a magnificent world of sand and lava and huge monsters. All the while, Link carefully, scrappily explores and does battle, even cruising off a mountain on a glider into a brilliant horizon.
"That look on your face tells me that you have no recollection of me, however. I think you are now ready. Ready to hear what happened 100 years ago," says a wise and firendly male voice. We also see a blonde young woman (Zelda?!) fall dramatically into Link's arms. Loving the voice acting, as well as the intriguing glimpses at what may be one of Legend of Zelda's most enticing plots yet.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is scheduled for a March 3 release date, launching along with the Nintendo Switch. If you're hyperventilating into a brown paper bag as you read, go ahead and let us know in the comments section below.
